The hosts, commentators and panelists at CNN (and most leftists in general) for some reason are very angry President Trump decided to stop giving weapons to ISIS, Al Qaeda and other terrorists who also happened to fight Assad.
The CIA program to train and arm moderate rebels was never going to tip the balance in Syria's civil war.
At best, it was a lifeline to a shrinking constituency in a conflict dominated by the regime and Russia on one side, and Islamist groups on the other.
But now, according to the Washington Post, the program will be phased out altogether. And the symbolism of that means more than the decision itself.
It's a further indication that the Trump administration sees no point in opposing Russia in Syria -- and an acknowledgment that the US has limited leverage in a conflict where President Bashar al-Assad is in a stronger position than five years ago.
It's also a message to groups that look to Washington for help that they are ultimately dispensable. Critics of the decision says it sends a message to US allies in the region that Washington is a fair-weather friend.
Unlike CNN and other establishment folks, most people (who fund the wars) are very VERY happy that President Trump decided to stop the trend of regime change and pulled the CIA program in Syria.
There are no ‘’moderate rebels’’ in Syria. The people who still believe that nonsense have no idea about the Middle East. It’s sad that CNN is pushing for more war once again.
The left used to be such peaceniks? What happened? Why do you want to give American weapons to terrorists? You think Syria will look better if they succeed to overthrow Assad? You didn’t learn from Iraq?
Are you aware Assad happens to protects Christians in Syria? And everywhere the enemies of Assad took over Christians were slaughtered to death? And many of them have used our weapons? and you people at CNN wan this to continue?
One of those critics, Republican Senator Lindsay Graham tweeted in response to the reports: "If this is true, a big loss for:
1) Syrians who have been relentlessly attacked by Assad
2) Our Arab partners
3) US standing in the Middle East."
The decision itself is however not that surprising. When running for president, Trump repeatedly rejected any entanglement in Syria beyond striking ISIS. Of moderate rebels, he has said: "We have no idea who these people are."
Of course the turn coat republican in the pocket of the defense industry also regrets this decision by Trump, what else is new? If you are 100% against Iraq, just be happy your money won’t be going to terrorists anymore.
Trump is absolutely right by saying that we have no idea who these rebels are. The fact that we gave weapons to them is a disgrace to begin with.
